Matin terms Hasina's physicians 'partisan'

Friday, 14 March 2008

Home Affairs Adviser Maj Gen (retd) MA Matin has termed 'partisan doctors' the physicians who suggested that detained ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should be sent abroad for treatment of her damaged ear, reports UNB.
"Those who stated this are partisan doctors. We can't take actions on the opinion of the partisan doctors. This much we can say that the government is very sympathetic. Appropriate steps will be taken at appropriate time," he told the reporters responding to a question about Hasina's treatment abroad, following the recommendations of her personal physicians.
The Home Adviser said Hasina has been undergoing treatment at the Square Hospital according to her choice. He said he had talks with the owners of the Square Hospital. If they feel she should be sent abroad, they will inform the government of it in writing.
Matin said the government is to follow rules and regulations. The doctors gave her 20-22 tests and also prescribed her medicines. After the tests if the Square Hospital expresses regret about her proper treatment there, a medical board will be constituted.
Hasina was admitted to the Square Hospital Tuesday with multiple health complications including acute problems with her ears and eyes.
Meanwhile another report adds, The Anticorruption Commission Thursday sent a letter to detained former prime minister Sheikh Hasina through jail authorities asking her for her version on the Niko corruption case.
ACC director general (administration) Col Hanif Iqbal told bdnews24.com: "The letter asked Sheikh Hasina to inform the commission in writing within the next five days if she had anything to say about the case. The letter also said she may give her version verbally instead of in writing."
