Mawa-Kewrakandi ferry service resumes
Monday, 21 July 2014
Ferry service on Mawa-Kewrakandi waterways resumed on Monday morning after a halt for 13 hours due to high waves in Padma River. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) manager Sirajul Haque said ferry operation on the Mawa-Kewrakandi route remained suspended from 8:10pm on Sunday due to strong current in the river. About 600 vehicles remained stuck at both ferry terminals. The disruption caused immense suffering to several hundred people lying stranded on the ferries. Later, ferry service was partially restored as seven ferries started plying the route around 9:00am on Monday, according to UNB.
