Mawa-Kewrakandi ferry service resumes after 3 hrs

Ferry service on the Mawa-Kewrakandi river route resumed on Friday morning after a halt for three hours due to poor visibility caused by thick fog. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation manager Sirajul Haque said ferry operation in Padma River on the Mawa-Kewrakandi route remained stranded from 5:00 am on Friday due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog. Besides, 10 ferries along with several hundred vehicles and hundreds of passengers got stuck in the middle of the Padma River. About 400 vehicles, including buses, trucks and private cars, remained stuck at both ferry terminals. The disruption caused immense suffering to more than 2,000 passengers lying stranded on the ferries. The ferry service was restored with disappearance of the fog at 8:15 am, according to UNB.
