May Allah deliver us

TO what extent the political culture in Bangladesh has gone down can easily be ascertained from the recent eviction drama which raised the eyebrows of the entire nation. The matter was a sub-judice one and instead of letting the law take its own course the politicians tried to solve the same indecently. What appeared to be absolutely a personal matter, was deliberately raised to the status of a national issue by our learned politicians. In the process, a huge amount of time, money and energy went down the drain both from the Government source and other private sources.
Our country is a poor one with a population of almost one hundred sixty million, eighty per cent of whom live below poverty level. There are so many things one can do to improve the lot of the people who are reeling under multifarious problems. Leaving aside those burning problems of the country, our politicians preferred to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Does this issue warrant enforced stoppage of work across the country, causing untold sufferings to the people, beside huge monetary loss to the nation? In the recent hartal about fifty vehicles were vandalized or burnt, about two hundred people were injured and almost three hundred were arrested.
As usual, one of the warring political parties calling the strike claimed success and the other dubbed it a failure. But what was the actual outcome? Only the people and the country suffered. The entire world must be laughing at the quality of our politicians and their leaders who place their party and personal interest above the national interest! May Allah deliver us from these unscrupulous politicians who have no respect for the country or its people.
