Maya looks morose, attends office

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Moffazal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, who did not attend the cabinet meeting on Monday, went to his office in the afternoon. Clad in a simple trouser and a half-sleeve checked shirt, Maya entered his Secretariat office around 3.15 pm. He looked morose. He welcomed a group of journalists to his chamber for tea but then asked them to leave. When one enquired about his health, Maya said: ‘Can’t you see the condition of my health? Don’t you understand I am working?’ Then he stood up from his chair and started murmuring in Arabic. When asked if he did not attend the cabinet meeting for his sickness, Maya shot back: ‘You people are so educated. What kind of language is this?’ He asked the journalists to leave and then told a person: Let us go to party office and work there. ‘Take care and pray for me,’ bespectacled Maya told the journalists. Then receiving a call on his mobile phone, he was heard saying: ‘Many did not attend the cabinet meeting. So what? Why are you making it an issue?’ After ending the call, he told the journalists, ‘When an elephant is in trouble even a tiny bat tries to take advantage of the situation. One should help during such situation.’ As tea and biscuits were served, he picked up a biscuit from the plate and urged the journalists to help themselves. Seeing that only one or two journalists, out of eight to ten, are helping themselves to the biscuits, the minister quipped, ‘Are you angry? Will you not take biscuits?’ Journalists had tea and biscuits as one tried to ask: ‘Many things are being told about you.’ Even before the question was completed, he replied, ‘That can be gauged from here. I thought you would leave after merely peeping through the door,’ according to bdnews23.com.
