Maya skips cabinet meetings

Monday, 12 May 2014

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya has skipped two consecutive cabinet meetings as the demand for his resignation grows louder following allegations that his son-in-law, a former Rab officer, is involved in Narayanganj 7-murder. Cabinet members have to give prior information about their intended absence, but the Awami League leader gave no such intimation. ‘I am not feeling well. That’s why I could not attend the cabinet meeting,’ Maya said when bdnews24.com contacted him to know the reason for his absence. He said he was in Dhaka. Seven men, including Narayanganj City Councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Advocate Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted from Narayanganj city on April 27. Their bodies were found floating in Shitalakkha and Dhaleswari rivers three days later. Maya’s son-in-law former Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad was removed from his job as commander of Rab-11 and sent back to the army one day before the bodies were recovered.
