Maya slates Khaleda for cutting cake on Aug 15

Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, general secretary of Awami League's Dhaka city unit, has severely criticised Khaleda Zia for celebrating her ‘birthday’ on Aug 15, the day the nation mourns the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The ruling party has long been claiming the BNP chief faked her birthdate to make it coincide with the national mourning day. Various records suggest her birthday has been shown differently over the years. “The nation thought you would not be celebrating your fake birthday this time. But we saw you celebrating it yesterday. None except someone crazy and lacking conscience can do something like this,” Maya said in a discussion on Sunday morning. Maya said Khaleda’s celebration was to encourage anti-liberation forces and war criminals. “This is why your supporters have moved away from you,” he said at the programme organised by Muktijoddha Prajanma League at AL headquarters on the Bangabandhu Avenue, according to a news agency.
