Mayor Khoka charge-sheeted in graft case

Wednesday, 2 July 2008

Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka was Tuesday charge-sheeted in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing illegal wealth and concealment of information, reports UNB

ACC assistant director Shamsul Alam, also the investigating officer, submitted the charge sheet with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court this evening

The DCC mayor is one of the 35 corrupt suspects whose names appeared on the fourth and last list published by the ACC on October 4, 2007.

He was issued notice on November 18 directing him to submit his wealth statement.

The ACC Tuesday approved the submission of charge sheet in a case filed against Khoka.

Sources said though the case was filed against Khoka, his wife, son and daughter, the charge sheet would be submitted only against Khoka.

The ACC did not decide to include Khoka's wife Ismat Ara, as there is a High Court stay order on the proceedings of the case against her.

The Commission also decided not to charge-sheet Khoka's son Ishrak Hossain and daughter Sarika Sadek.

The ACC sources said that the Commission would separately issue notices to them, directing them to submit their wealth statements.
