Thursday, 16 August 2007

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and three others, including prominent TV artiste Abdullah Al Mamun, were acquitted of charges in a graft case Wednesday, reports UNB.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge AKM Anwar Hossain acquitted Mayor Mohiuddin, Abdullah Al Mamun, AL leader Golam Mostafa Kanchan and Chittagong Bar Association secretary Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury of the corruption charges.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against them with Kotwali police station on June 28, on charge of misappropriation of Tk 4.4 million (44 lakh) from CCC fund.
It complained that Mohiuddin gave the money to Muktijoddha Shilpi Parishad from the CCC fund for making a documentary film on the Liberation War named 'Muktijuddhe Chattagram'.
The film was completed in 2000, but could not be released as it was made without the approval of the Local Government Division and because of the change of the government.
Abdullah Al Mamun was the director of the film while Golam Mostafa Kanchan was the project director and Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury was the coordinator.
After examining witnesses and relevant documents, the Judge acquitted them, as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.
