Mayor of Mongla Port town removed on corruption charge

BAGERHAT, Jul 5 (UNB): Mayor Molla Abdul Jalil of Mongla Port town has been removed on charge of corruption.
A notification of LGRD ministry issued Monday said the dismissal of Mayor Abdul Jalil will be effective from July 1.
Ward councillor Shafiqur Rahman has been made the acting mayor, said the notification.
It said the decision was taken following submission of charge sheet in court against Jalil in respect of three graft cases filed two years ago by the Anti-corruption Commission after investigation.
Jalil was elected mayor of Mongla Port town in 2004.
