Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam vowed on Tuesday to do everything possible to keep the DNCC area free from waterlogging aiming to ease the sufferings of city dwellers during the upcoming monsoon, reports BSS.
He came up with the pledge while visiting waterlogging-prone areas of the city's Uttara, Ashkona, Banani and Uttar Badda.
"All should come forward to cut the sufferings of city dwellers…We all love our city. I will do everything possible involving the people for the city's development," Atiqul said.
The DNCC mayor visited four waterlogging-prone areas in the city corporation.
During his visit to Shayesta Kha Avenue of Uttara, he found that many illegal structures were built on drains, which may create water congestion in the upcoming monsoon.
He directed the authorities concerned to remove those illegal structures from the drains within two days.
Otherwise, eviction drives would be conducted in the area, he warned.
During his visit to Ashkona area, Atiqul instructed Dhaka WASA to clean all drains within 24 hours to keep the area free from waterlogging.
He also instructed the Civil Aviation Authority, the Dhaka WASA and the DNCC to take necessary steps to remove waterlogging from the area permanently.
