LAS VEGAS, Nevada, Sept 19 (AFP): Floyd Mayweather Jr had his closest family members back in his corner as he and Juan Manuel Marquez weighed for their 12-round lightweight fight on Saturday.
Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs), a six-time world champion from five different divisions, tipped the scales at 146 pounds Friday while Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KOs) weighed in at 142 pounds.
"I am going to solidify my hall of fame by beating one of the best in the business," Mayweather said. "I feel tremendous. Marquez is a tough fighter. I have to stick to my game plan."
The fight will signal American Mayweather's return from a long layoff and what he originally called his retirement. The last time he stepped in the ring was December 2007 when he beat Ricky Hatton by a technical knockout.
"I'm back to get what's mine," Mayweather said. "I've got to show everybody that what I do is still better than what everybody else does. I should be around for a while."
The fight is expected to be a premier display of boxing, as the talented Mayweather is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
"There's a blueprint on how to beat Marquez," Mayweather said. "There's not a blueprint on how to beat me."
Marquez, of Mexico, is the current World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization lightweight champion. He's previously held featherweight and super featherweight belts.
