McDonald's sales bounce back in January
Sunday, 10 February 2008
Same-store sales at McDonald's rose by 1.9 per cent in January, the fast-food chain said Friday, helping quell some fears after the company's flat December.
McDonald's said that worldwide, sales at stores open at least 13 months jumped 5.7 per cent worldwide. They were up 8.2 per cent in Asia and 7.8 per cent in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
In December, McDonald's U.S. same-store sales were essentially flat. Shares of the company declined about 8 per cent the day of the announcement as analysts worried that consumers were cutting back on fast-food purchases thanks to the slowing economy.
Friday's figures helped ease some of those concerns. Shares of McDonald's were trading up 2 per cent, to $55.55, in afternoon trading.
