Measurement and light integral part of public life: Speakers

RAJSHAHI, May 21 (BSS): Terming the measurement and light as the integral part of the existing public life speakers at a discussion here Wednesday said utmost emphasis should be given on the issue for the betterment of the society and the nation as well.
They viewed all the modern technological and informative devices and related other tools are totally depended on light and measurement and said the issue of using light properly needs to be brought under public consideration.
Rajshahi regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) organised the discussion at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city to mark the World Metrology Day-May 20, 2015. The theme of this year's Metrology Day is 'Measurements and Light.'
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahemd addressed the session as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman and Prof Dr Ariful Islam Nahid from Applied Physics and Electronic Engineering Department of Rajshahi University spoke as special guests with ABM Mourtoza Hossain Shah, Regional Director of BSTI, in the chair.
During his keynote presentation, Nurul Islam, Deputy Director of BSTI, said the topic was chosen to align with the UNESCO International Year of Light and Light-based technologies 2015, a global initiative designed to highlight the key role light and optical technologies play in daily live and their importance for the sustainable development of society.
He said the theme of this year's Metrological Day has been time-befitting and appropriate.
