Meat sellers protest DNCC slaughtering fee hike

Sunday, 2 March 2014

Meat traders protested Sunday the hike in slaughtering fee by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) authorities. They also claimed that this will lead to the hike in the prices of meat.
Leaders of Bangladesh Meat Traders’ Association and Dhaka Metropolitan Meat Traders’ Association registered their protest at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city, according to a news agency.
The DNCC authorities last month increased the slaughtering fees to Tk 80 from Tk 50 for cow, Tk 110 from Tk 75 for buffalo and Tk 20 from Tk 5 for goat without any negotiation with the traders, they said.
President of Bangladesh Meat Traders’ Association Golam Martuza Montu and its secretary general Rabiul Alam, and President of Dhaka Metropolitan Meat Traders’ Association Sheikh Md Abdul Barek and its general secretary Samim Ahmed were present in the press conference.
Addressing the function, Rabiul Alam said, “If Dhaka North City Corporation earns revenues improving their services, we’ve no objection to provide the increased service charge.”
