NILPHAMARI, Feb 24: Mechanized cultivation of arable land is gradually gaining pace in Nilphamari district. Use of bullock in cultivating cropland has decreased drastically and it has come down to less then 60 per cent. On the other hand, use of tractors and power tillers has increased manifold in the last few years. Particularly use of power tillers has increased in almost all the upazilas across the district. Sources said farmers use power tillers on rental contract who do not possess any power tiller of their own. Rent is being fixed on the total area of the cultivable land. Generally Tk 150 is charged for the cultivation of 30 decimal of land and it is for one time cultivation. In this way a plot of land has to be cultivated four times, thus it takes nearly Tk 800 for a plot of 30 decimal of land to be ready for plantation.
