Media, civil society can project Islam: Iftekhar

Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury told the OIC ministers that the media and the civil society in Islamic countries had an important role in projecting Islam as a religion of peace and tolerance, reports BSS.
He said this while participating in a debate on the twin issues of "Islamophobia" and "food security" at the meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers in New York Friday evening, according to a message received in Dhaka Monday.
He said there were wealthy member states of the OIC who could assist the process of obtaining food security of the Islamic Ummah by supporting agricultural research and extension.
He appreciated the initiative of the Emir of Kuwait in setting up the "Fund for Dignified Life" to support agriculture in poorer Muslim countries.
Iftekhar encouraged dialogues with other faiths and cultures to enhance "a proper understanding of the civilising values of Islam."
