Media coverage of BKB's branch opening
Sunday, 12 April 2009
Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has opened its 951st branch at Koraish Munshi Bazar under P.S: Dagun Bhuiyan, Dist Feni on April 01, 09. The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of BKB's CEO and managing director, Md. Mukter Hossain, deputy managing director, Jainal Abedin, general manager, Comilla Zone, Mosharraf Hossain and DGM BCD, ATM Anisur Rahman. Chaired by the regional manager, Nazrul Islam, the ceremony was largely attended by government officials, public leaders, local elites, businessmen and members of the farming community of the locality.
The assembly of the people was large and there was much enthusiasm among the participants during the opening ceremony of the bank. The spirit with which the local people took the occasion was really memorable; but it is sad that the media coverage of the event has been very poor and disappointing. A few Bengali dailies covered this event though in a low key manner. No English daily, except one, gave any news of this event, that too seven days after the date of occurrence!
The opening ceremony of a BKB Branch at a rural centre is a very significant event of the organisation. It should get wide coverage in the print media both in Bangla and English dailies. In the business pages of national dailies, particularly the English ones, such events of commercial importance are very beautifully and attractively displayed with elaboration of important features of the functions of the organization. We fail to understand why BKB, being a state-owned organization, failed to get adequate coverage in the national dailies. The commercial banks get their daily events published in the newspaper which attracts attention of the prospective clients and interested members of the public.
We therefore request the BKB authorities to look into the matter and ensure that the events of the organization get due coverage in the media in the greater public interest.
