CHATTOGRAM, May 27: Local residents, including freedom fighters, on Sunday registered protest against a media report mentioning the Pathantooly ward councillor of Chattogram City Corporation as a patron of drug dealers.
Their protest came at a press conference organised at Chattogram Press Club in the city on Sunday.
The protesters said the allegations brought against ward councillor Md Abdul Kader in a daily published from Dhaka are false, fabricated and motivated.
They called upon the media to seek the 'real information' from Kader's area about whether he is helping the drug peddlers or conducting anti-drug campaign along with the local people.
Freedom Fighter Zahed Ahmed addressed the press conference on behalf of the local residents and replied to different queries of the reporters.
As many as 22 social leaders, former women councillors, former headmaster of the Pathantooly City Corporation High School and cultural activists also spoke at the event.
Zahed Ahmed said the anti-drug campaign and raids conducted by councillor Kader over the last several months have been acclaimed by all sections of the people.
Besides, he has been working hard for development of the underdeveloped ward.
