FE Report
The media that covered the 9th parliamentary election of Bangladesh were able to discharge their professional duties in a free and fair manner, says a UNESCO report Sunday on the media coverage of the December 29 national polls.
According to the findings of the UN organisation, the media could work freely and there was no report of any incidents of intimidation or violence against journalists over the weeks preceding the national election.
UNESCO Dhaka commissioned a three-member panel comprising senior journalists and academic experts to monitor the media coverage of elections.
The monitoring focused on some crucial aspects of election coverage such as balance in the coverage of major political parties, voter education, gender sensitivity, coverage of hate speech and minority issues.
