Medical colleges' clashes leave 33 students hurt

At least 33 students have been injured in two separate clashes at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Faridpur Medical College, reports bdnews24.com.
According to the police and eye-witnesses, the clash at Osmani Medical College broke out around 10 am Monday over recruiting MBBS admission seekers to Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wings of Awami League (AL) and Jama'at-e-Islami respectively.
BCL activists protested against ICS as they went about their recruitment drive. At one stage, Shibir activists attacked them and the two parties locked in a clash, leaving at least 25 injured.
The injured persons were admitted into the medical college's hospital.
The police detained six persons, including the college ICS chief Nafis Reazuzzaman Badhan, said Kotwali police sub-inspector (SI) Mujibur Rahman.
Police said the situation had been brought under control.
Meanwhile, at least eight students were injured in two factional clashes of BCL at the students' dormitory of Faridpur Medical College in the early hours Monday.
