The combined medical and dental college admission test will be held on October 2. The decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting that Health Minister Mohammed Nasim chaired. The hour-long MCQ exam would be held for entrance to all public and private medical and dental colleges. Bangladesh’s 29 public medical colleges have 3,162 seats for the MBBS course, while 64 private medical colleges have 5,325 seats. Nine public dental colleges have 532 seats for the BDS course and 24 private dental colleges have 1,280 seats. The health ministry earlier set September 18 as a tentative date for the examinations. Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr Deen Muhammad Nurul Haque then said the final decision would be taken in a meeting with the minister. However, on Thursday, he said they were not decided on the date for releasing application forms and entrance procedures yet. “We’ll meet again very shortly, maybe within a day or two to detail out the procedure,” he said. Usually, GPA 8 in SSC and HSC examinations combined is the prerequisite for anyone to take the medical and dental admission test. But this year, a drop in performance in HSC and equivalent exams has prompted the Dhaka University to relax its entrance requirements.
