Medical student drowns in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, Apr 15 (BSS): A student of Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital drowned at Chowrasta pond under Begumganj upazila of the district this morning.
The victim was identified as Ahsan Azad, 20, a first year student of Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital, son of Md. Abul Kalam of Motabi village under Noakhali Sadar Upazila under Feni district.
Dr. Bappa Ratan, Vice-Principal of the Medical College said that the students were playing football in the morning at the college campus at about 8.00 am. At one stage, the ball fell on the middle of the pond.
At that time Ahsan Azad went to collect the ball by swimming. When he reached near the ball, he was seen drowning. When the students saw him drowning, they went to rescue him but failed. After hearing hue and cry of the students, local people picked him up by throwing net. He was immediately taken to hospital where the doctor declared him dead. He died due to fatigue, the doctor said.
Dr. Abdus Sattar Farazi, Secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association of Noakhali unit expressed deep shock at the death of Ahsan Azad.
