The students of the country's medical colleges have demanded at least two chances to sit for the supplementary examination, if they fail in any subject of their professional examination.
"We make an earnest request to the authorities concerned to restore the previous system of professional examination, as the newly introduced curriculum whimsically destroys an academic year from our lives", said Feroz Mukul, a student of Dhaka Medical College.
As per the new system, a third-year student gets only one chance for the supplementary examination, if he cannot do well in any subject of his first professional examination.
If the student fails again in his supplementary examination, he is to be demoted to second year, and his third year results and other academic records are also cancelled.
Demanding change of the new examination system, the medical students have been organising press conferences at different divisional cities for the last few weeks, and repeatedly submitting memorandums to the Health Directorate and Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).
'Voice of Medical Students', a platform of the students of the country's medical colleges, has already organised several press conferences in Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi, and placed their demands through the journalists. However, the authorities concerned did not pay any attention to their demands.
A second-year student of K Yunus Medical College, in a press conference in the city said, the private medical colleges are snatching a huge amount of money from the innocent students and their guardians by realising extra session fees and other incidental charges with the execution of the new examination system.
On the other hand, the students of the government medical colleges are losing their valuable academic session for the 'erroneous' system of examination.
