Medicines at actual prices
Thursday, 19 June 2008
PRICES of many life saving medicines often increase without any reason. The dealers as well as the pharmaceutical companies sometime, increase the prices of these medicines by controlling the supply into the market. In the rural areas, the poor often have to buy medicines at much higher prices. Some lifesaving medicines are selling double or three-times their actual prices.
It is known that medicine prices have not been increased for nearly a decade. At the demand of the medicine manufacturing companies, the government decided to review the medicine prices. Despite the efforts, price manipulation is reported to be rampant.
The suppliers and the producers know that we cannot do without medicines for treatment of physical or mental sickness. So it is necessary for the government to control the market so that people afflicted with various diseases get the medicine in time and at proper prices. None should be allowed to play with the people's helplessness.
