Meeting on Durga Puja held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Sept 15 (BSS): A meeting on the celebration of the coming Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community, was held at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here.
With deputy commissioner (DC) M. Ehsan-e-Elahi in the chair, the meeting held on Sunday discussed elaborately about various issues including overall preparatory steps and security measures for holding of the forthcoming puja in the district smoothly.
The leaders of puja celebration committee informed the meeting that a total of 556 puja mandaps would be erected in all the seven upazilas of the district this year.
Of the total, some 123 puja mandaps would be erected in Sundarganj upazila, 188 in Gobindaganj upazila, 99 in Sadar upazila, 100 in Sadullapur upazila, 62 in Palashbari upazila, 57 in Saghata upazila and 17 in Fulchhari upazila of the district.
The four day-long puja would begin from September 30 and end on October 3 through the immersion of idols.
A decision was taken in the meeting not to beat the drums and other musical instruments during the time of prayers of the Muslim community, the meeting sources said.
