Menon discusses bilateral co-op with Iraqi envoy

Sunday, 16 March 2014

Iraq wants to introduce direct Dhaka-Baghdad flights as the cooperation between the two countries is growing. The proposal came when Iraqi Ambassador in Dhaka Shakir Qasem Mahdi Al -Kaffal met Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Memon at his office on Sunday. The ambassador said about 200 Bangladeshi workers travel to Iraq every day and he hoped the number will increase. He said Iraq and Bangladesh signed an agreement in 1988 to launch Dhaka-Baghdad direct flights of Iraqi Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The flights can be introduced under the agreement, Al -Kaffal said. Menon urged the Iraqi government to import more manpower from Bangladesh to help reconstruct the war-rampaged country, according to a news agency.
