Menon reelected Workers\\\' Party President

Rashed Khan Menon and Fazle Hossain Badsha have been respectively elected President and General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh for the 2014-15 term. A 75-member new committee was formally announced at the closing sessions of the 9th congress of the party at the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy on Sunday. Workers’ Party is one of the key constituents of the ruling Awami League-led Grand Alliance government. After announcing the new committee, re-elected President Menon said: “I hope this new committee will play a pioneering role in uniting all those who believe in the spirit of the Liberation War.” Menon was elected the party’s president for the third consecutive time. Currently, he is the civil aviation and tourism minister. Badsha, who was elected the party’s Central General Secretary for the first time, vowed to give leadership from forefront in the fight against communalism and militancy in the country. Badsha was elected lawmaker from Rajshahi-1 constituency in the 10th parliamentary elections. A former student leader of the 1980s, Badsha played a prominent role in the movement against Ershad regime in 1983-1990, according to a news agency.
