Mercantile Bank, LGD, A21 Programme sign MoU*****

Local Government Division (LGD), UNDP-supported Access to Information (A21) Programme and Mercantile Bank Limited signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for introducing mobile phone based banking services to the rural communities through Union Information and Services Center (UISC) in the city recently, says a press release.
Mercantile Bank Limited will introduce branchless mobile banking in 50 union information, service centers as pilot programme aimed at providing banking facilities to the rural people. The remaining UISCs will be brought under the programme in phases. All banking facilities including opening of bank account, receiving remittance, cash withdrawal and deposit. will be available through the mobile banking service.
Additional Secretary of LGD Syeed Mahboob Hasan, National Project Director of the A21 Programme Md. Nazrul Islam Khan and Managing Director and CEO of Mercantile Bank Limited AKM Shahidul Haque signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at the Prime Minister's Office. The bank Chairman Md Abdul Jalil, MP, Vice-chairman Mohd Selim, Executive Committee Chairman MS Ahsan, Audit Committee Chairman Akram Hussain, Director Golam Faruk Ahmed, deputy managing directors Monindra Kumar Nath and Faruq M Ahmed and other senior executives of the bank were also present on the occasion.
