Meridian-Anando Alo Children Paintings Award contest from Aug 14

Meridian-Anando Alo Children Paintings Award-2009 will begin on August 14 this year in nine areas including six divisional cities of the country.
This was disclosed at a press conference jointly organised by Meridian Foods Limited and the Fortnightly Anando Alo at the Channel i Bhaban in the city Wednesday, said a press release.
Chaired by Channel i Managing Director (MD) Faridur Reza Sagar, the press conference was attended, among others, by noted writer Imdadul Hoque Milon and Meridian Foods MD SM Kamal Pasha.
Editor of Anando Alo Rezanur Rahman presented the keynote speech in the conference.
A large number of journalists took part in the conference along with officials of Meridian, Channel i and Anando Alo.
Registration of the competition will begin from June 10 through SMS only and it will remain open until 10am on the first day of the competition. Final round of the competition will be held in December.
There would be two sections - Group A for students of Class-I to Class-IV and Group B for Class-V to Class-VIII.
There will be no theme for Group A. They will portray their own imagination. The theme for Group B is 'Save the Rivers of Bangladesh' and 'Rural Bangladesh'.
Eminent artist Hashem Khan will be the chief judge of the competition. The art works of the children with disabilities will be evaluated separately if their participation is significant.
Preliminary sessions of the competition will take place in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barisal, Khulna, Comilla, Sylhet and Chittagong districts.
Nearly 50,000 schoolchildren participated in the preliminary round of the competition last year.
Writer Milon said, "The painting competition will open up windows for many hidden talents of the country by giving them a chance to express their creativity."
The editor of the Anando Alo said winner of the competition would receive a grand prize of Tk 0.1 million (1.0 lakh) education insurance. The prize for runner-up will get Tk 75,000 education insurance, while the second runner-up will receive Tk 50,000 education insurance.
The Meridian Foods MD said starting in 2007, the contest has become quite popular. They hope that it will be an international one in future.
