Message for university authorities

Wednesday, 2 October 2019

The departure of vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), Gopalganj, Khondoker Md Nasir Uddin has offered some relief for student demonstrators. It is unfortunate that there were allegations against him of irregularities, corruption, moral turpitude and autocratic attitude. As the University Grants Commission (UGC) recommended his removal, the incident has left certain message for authorities of other universities. Mr. Nasir Uddin had suspended a girl student who raised question about purpose of university in a social media post. University authorities should now try to address the concern over why Bangladeshi universities fail to find any position among top-ranking institutes worldwide. Teachers and officials of the highest educational institutes earn people's respect when universities are dedicated to education and research.
