Metro-rail construction to end by 2020: Quader

Monday, 23 March 2015

Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said Sunday the construction of metro-rail from Uttara to Farmgate will be completed by 2019 and the remaining portion from Farmgate to Bangladesh Bank will end by 2020, reports BSS.
Tenders for metro-rail were being invited by dividing the whole project into eight packages, he said while presiding over a board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at the Nagar Bhaban conference room in the city.
The minister said tenders have already been floated for two packages of the metrorail project. Tenders of the remaining packages would be floated by December this year, he added.
He directed the engineers concerned to complete repairing roads across the country, including Dhaka, in two months so that the people do not suffer during the monsoon and the month of Ramadan.
He also directed them to free the roads from encroachment, which is causing serious traffic jam.
Mr Quader said the construction site of Magbazar flyover and other roads in the capital would have to be cleaned before the monsoon and the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, Sagufta Yasmin Emily, MP, Secretary of Ministry for Road Transport and Bridges MN Siddique and other secretaries and senior officials concerned attended the meeting.
