Metro rail staff warn of tougher action

Dhaka metro-rail employees have threatened to go for a tougher action programme if Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited fails to implement its service rules by next Thursday.
Employees of DMTCL from grades 9 to 16 announced the programme on Thursday after staging a sit-in in front of Diabari head office gate for the fourth consecutive day.
Around 150 employees began the protest on July 28, ahead of a DMTCL board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, accusing the authorities concerned of delaying implementation of the company's service rules though the board had approved them last December.
Sources said the aggrieved employees of DMTCL have suspended their protest programme until next Thursday to give the authorities time to hold the board meeting scheduled for Wednesday (July 30).
DMTCL employees had earlier halted metro-rail operations last December. Later the board in an emergency meeting approved the service rules which have yet to be made effective.
