Metro rail tender in Dec: Quader

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the government will float a tender on the much-hyped Metro Rail project in December next. “The tender for implementing Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (DMRTDP) will be floated in December this year,” he told reporters at a press briefing at the Secretariat. The Communications Minister said the main work on the Metro Rail project will begin in 2015 and it will be completed by 2019. He said Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) will implement the project under the supervision of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JAICA) will provide Tk 16,600 crore for implementing the project while Tk 5400 crore will come from the national exchequer, according to UNB.
