Metro to run on entire route until 8pm

FE REPORT | Friday, 19 January 2024

The metro rail is scheduled to be operated from 7:10 am to 8 pm on the entire Uttara-Motijheel corridor starting tomorrow (Saturday), facilitating commuters to enjoy a comfortable daily journey.
The trains of the MRT-6 will run with 10-minute interval during peak hours (7:10-11:30am and 4:01-8pm) and 12-minute interval during the off-peak hours.
However, the four trains that will arrive at Motijheel station after 8pm will also take passengers from all stations while heading back to the depot.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director announced the new schedule at a press conference in the city on Thursday.
Passengers having MRT or Rapid passes with adequate balances and those who would be able to purchase single journey tickets before the machine closes at 7:45pm could ride the trains leaving Motijheel station at 8:10 pm, 8:20pm, 8:30pm and 8:40pm.
The DMTCL launched the first metro rail MRT 6 in the city's Uttara-Motijheel corridor in phases which have been operating at two separate times till now.
Now, the Agargaon to Motijheel section of the corridor remains open for passengers from 7:10 am to 11:30 am, while the Agargaon-Uttara part from 7:10 am to 8pm.
Replying to a question, the DMTCL MD said the time has been extended considering people's high demand and comfort in the daily journey.
However, Deputy General Manager Nazmul Hossain Bhuiyan told the FE that after conducting an overall survey, the DMTCL took the decision to match the timings with the Agargaon to Uttara North stations.
Without addressing some issues like incomplete entry-exit stairs at some stations, the trains can be operated to meet the people's needs, he added.
