Metrorail service suspended sine die

Trains also halt as bikes banned

FE REPORT | Saturday, 20 July 2024

Operations of Metrorail have been suspended for an indefinite period from today (Saturday).
The decision came in the wake of railway services disrupted seriously on Friday due to "the complete shutdown" programme called by the quota reformists.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) made the announcement on Friday, a weekly holiday. On Thursday it stopped the operation for four hours after 5.30 pm due to a fire at a foot-overbridge near the Mirpur-10 station.
DMP also banned movement of motorbikes in the city for an indefinite period.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Railway also decided to keep all train services suspended. Most trains stopped running on Friday except a few. Moitry Express from Kolkata was stranded at Darshana for several hours.
