FE Report The M. I. Cement Factory Ltd (MICFL), with its brand 'Crown Cement', Saturday launched its fourth production unit, having a production capacity of 3000 tonnes per day, in Munshiganj. With the launching of its new unit, the 17-year old cement factory will be able to produce some 5,800 tonnes every day to meet the country's growing demand in the construction sector. This was disclosed at the company's 17th founding anniversary and launching of its 4th production unit at a ceremony at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. The company now employs 500 staff members in its three factories located at Muktarpur in Munshiganj and the corporate office in Dhaka. The MIFL started its journey in 1994 with a daily production capacity of 600 tonnes which later rose to 00001400 tonnes in two years. "Now the new journey with implementation of a new production unit of 3000 tonnes daily has raised the production capacity to 5800 tonnes per day which is more than double of our existing capacity," said Mr Jahangir. Company sources claim that Crown Cement is the market leader among the local cement brands in terms of quality while their position is 4th in terms of production volume. "We have won the bidding of Kuril and Jatrabari flyover projects beating other local and international cement brands because of our quality," said a company official. The MI Cement now exports about 10,000 tonnes of cement per month to various countries with India being the major importer of the brand. Mr Jahangir said the enterprise contributes more than Tk 1000 million to the public exchequer per year. Mr Khabiruddin said Crown Cement has earned goodwill at home and abroad because of its superior quality. "MI Cement was a pioneer in exporting cement. The company won National Export Trophy (Gold) for the two consecutive years in 2009 and 2010," he added.
