Microcredit disbursed among guardians of child labour

Microcredit disbursement among the guardians of children engaged in worst forms of child labour in urban informal economy of Dhaka City began Monday.
Resource Integration Centre (RIC) disbursed Tk 10,000 per person aiming at gradually withdrawing the children from hazardous work through raising alternative income with the money they received, says a press release.
The recipients who are regularly sending their children to Multi Purpose Centre for specialized non-formal education have themselves received training on entrepreneurship development.
A credit disbursement ceremony was organised at Bangsal, Nayabazar MPC by the implementing NGO RIC engaged in implementing Social and Economic Empowerment component under the project run by Dhaka City Corporation (DCC).
Jakir Hossain, Monitoring Officer, DCC-ILO Action Programme on Child Labour attended the function and called upon the guardians to invest the money in proper income generating activities.
He also oriented them about the importance of education and harms of hazardous work.
Md Abdur Rashid, Project Manager, RIC, Surojit Kundu, Project Manager, PSTC, Khondoker Rafiqul Islam, Field Supervisor, RIC and Syed Mirza Golam Hifiz (Rubel), Social Mobilizer also spoke.
Abdur Rashid said hazardous child labour is serious barrier to natural growth of the children. He also said child labour is an important means of unskilled labour and it extends poverty cycle.
