Micromax handsets to hit BD mkt soon

India's third largest handset brand Micromax has announced its foray into Bangladesh and said it would launch a dozen cellular phone models priced between 2,000 and 16,000 taka.
The 24-billion-taka-brand will target consumers of all segments, with special focus on the youth and the growing rural markets of Bangladesh, the company said Friday in a statement.
However, no investment details were disclosed.
The Delhi-based company has appointed Reach Distribution Ltd as its national distributor for the Bangladesh market, which will make the handsets available through more than 2,500 outlets, the statement added.
Reach Distribution, one of the fastest growing marketing and distribution solution companies in Bangladesh, has already signed agreements with key retailers to make Micromax products available through 2,500-plus outlets across the country.
To begin with, the company will launch 12 models ranging from less than 2,000 taka to 16,000 taka. These include feature-rich mobile phones, ranging from 30-day long battery back-up, dual SIM, music-touch phones, lifestyle phones and utility phones, the company said.
"We have been keenly observing the Bangladesh telecom market for the tremendous growth it has undertaken over the last few years. We are sure that the country is on path for a digital connectivity and has a great future for telecommunication industry as a whole and wireless communication in particular," Vikas Jain, business director of Micromax Informatics Ltd said.
He said the company would also reach out to the low tele-density rural population of Bangladesh with affordable mobile handsets.
