Migrants Foundation concern over deportation of workers from Mideast
FE Report | Sunday, 10 August 2008
International Migrants Foundation (IMF) has expressed deep concern over the forced deportation of Bangladeshi workers from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Malaysia.
In a press statement Saturday, IMF President Nayan Bangalee feared that it would create a negative impact on the total economy by hampering the flow of remittance from abroad.
The foreign ministry and Bangladesh missions in the respective countries failed to play due role in containing the situation. Such a situation might create problems in case of workers in other countries.
To solve the current issues, the IMF urged the authorities concerned to send officials to countries including the Middle East to discuss the problems on a priority basis.
If recruiting agents were responsible for the situation, proper steps should be taken against them, the IMF said and urged the government to form a committee to probe the matter immediately.
The IMF also blamed the foreign adviser and ministry of foreign affairs for failing to protect the interest of the Bangladeshis working abroad.
