Thursday, 16 April 2009

Residents in the Chittagong area were shaken by a mild quake late Tuesday night. The met office's seismic observation centre said the quake hit at 10.57pm, with its epicentre some 316 km southeast of Dhaka on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. There were also reports of tremors at Kutubdia Island. Dhaka University's earth observatory director Prof Sayed Humayun Kabir said the quake was a result of the Sitakunda-Teknaf-Myanmar subduction fault. — bdnews24.com
