FE REPORT | Wednesday, 23 July 2025
Milestone jet-crash death toll rises to 29 by the latest official count on Tuesday as many groaned in hospitals and the nation mourned the tragedy.
A total of 68 injured victims were currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals, according to Health Ministry's latest information published at 7:37 pm on the day.
Special Assistant at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Prof Dr Md. Sayedur Rahman at a press briefing at the burn institute said a specialized medical team from Singapore is on its way to assist in the treatment of critically injured patients.
Nurjahan Begum, Adviser of the interim government for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was present during the press briefing.

"A senior consultant and two experienced nurses from Singapore General Hospital are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka tonight (Tuesday night) to join the efforts at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery," Prof Sayedur said.
The move comes under an existing memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Burn Institute and Singapore General Hospital, he confirmed.
He said the visiting medical team will begin working alongside Bangladeshi doctors starting tomorrow, bringing international expertise to help manage the complex cases resulting from Monday's horrific accident. Their focus will be on providing advanced, specialized care to the burn victims, many of whom remain in critical condition.
Dr Rahman said, "According to the information we have, 29 people have died so far. The bodies of six of them have not yet been identified. Four families have claimed that the bodies will be handed over to them only after a final DNA test."
Thirty out of 42 people undergoing treatment at the hospital are "in danger". At least 10 of these 30 are in critical condition while other 10 remain out of danger, said the medical professor.
Among them, two have been shifted to cabins after showing signs of improvement.
The crash has not only claimed the lives of young students but also taken the lives of two teachers, Rahman said.
The team of doctors from Singapore will monitor the injured in various hospitals. They will decide how many need advanced treatments. "If necessary, arrangements will be made for the injured to be treated abroad," he stated.
However, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), as of 12:00 noon Tuesday, 31 people have been confirmed dead, while 165 others are receiving treatment at various hospitals.
