Militant outfits regrouping, claims RAB

FE REPORT | Thursday, 17 August 2023

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claimed on Wednesday that the militant groups who were active in the past are now reorganising again through recruiting new members.
Director (media and legal wing) of RAB commander Khandakar Al Moin disclosed the development to the media at the elite force's office in the capital's Karwan Bazar area on the day.
He said, "17th August (Thursday) will be the 18th anniversary of serial bomb blasts in the country."
"The militant groups remained inactive over the past few years but in recent time they are raising their heads again in an attempt to destabilise the country," he added.
"The main mandate of RAB is to work to root out militancy. So far nine militant (outlawed) organisations have been banned," he said while responding to a query regarding RAB's action to curb militancy. He said the intelligence members of RAB have been working to nab the members of the newly-active militant groups.
About the militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, the RAB official further said activities of the JMB that committed serial bomb blasts in the country 18 years ago (on August 17) slowed down in the recent years.
