Mill workers demonstrate for wage hike at Savar

SAVAR, Jan 5 (UNB): Workers of Panna Textile Mill at Khagan here Saturday staged demonstration, demanding their arrears and increased wages in the wake of price hike of essentials.
Instead of joining their duties, the workers took position outside the mill gate in the morning and shouted slogans in favour of their demands.
They also damaged a number of doors and windowpanes of the mill, owned by Awami League leader and ex-law maker Mokbul Hossain.
On information, police rushed in and held a meeting between the workers and the mill management to resolve the problems.
Later, the workers went back to work as the management side assured them of accepting their demands.
The workers said they were unable to support their families with the small amount of salary due to the soaring prices of essentials.
