Miners continue strike for sixth day

DINAJPUR, Dec 1: Miners of Maddhyapara Granite Mining Company Ltd (MGMCL) in Parbotipur Upazila are continuing their indefinite strike for the sixth consecutive day today (Wednesday).Meanwhile, villagers of the hard-rock mine area aligned themselves with the movement expressing full support to the miners' 7-point demand, including reinstatement of five miners and withdrawal of cases against 20 miners. From their procession in the afternoon they chanted slogans in favour of striking miners and against the authority of the mine who threatened to terminate 289 more miners. General Secretary of MGMCL Miners and Workers' Union Mostafizur Rahman said they would submit a memo to the mine authority and stage demonstration in the mine area tomorrow if their demands are not met.- UNB
