NILPHAMARI, June 30: Auctioned machinery of the world's largest Adamjee Jute Mill are being widely used in establishing mini jute mills across the northern region of the country including Nilphamari. Persons buying looms from closed Adamjee are establishing small jute sacking factories and providing employment to the local people.
One such small entrepreneur Utpalendu Dev bought 18 looms from Adamjee for his agro-based mill Progoti in Nilphamari. He is now trying to add more looms to increase its capacity. Another small entrepreneur Gokul Poddar also established a small jute sacking factory titled Poddar Agro-based Mill at Saidpur. He already has 60 looms most of which are from Adamjee.
As these factories are small in size and as their overhead expenses are very low they are making profit and expanding their capacity. They are thus contributing substantially to the national economy.
