Tuesday, 17 May 2011

Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Abul Kalam Azad has urged the freedom fighters, researchers and historians to project the actual history of the War of Liberation. The information minister said this, while speaking at the inaugural session of a seminar on 'Preparing Regional History of the War of Liberation' at Bangla Academy in the city Monday, reports BSS. A vested quarter distorted the real history of the War of Liberation for their personal gain and now time has come to let the people know the accurate information about the war, the minister said. Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan addressed the session with National Prof Kabir Chowdhury in the chair. "After 40 years of our independence, we could not make a complete history of the War of Liberation. This failure should not continue," Mr Azad said calling upon all concerned to prepare a complete history of War of Liberation removing confusing information. Describing the War of Liberation as the most glorious history of the nation, the minister said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started the struggle for independence after 1947 as he could realise that Bangali nation would not get benefit from newly-born Pakistan. Referring to different struggles and movements including Student Movement in 1962, Six-point Demand in 1966 and Mass Upsurge of 1969, he said, "We got independence finally in 1971 under the leadership of Bangabandhu." History of War of Liberation would not get perfection without including its regional episodes, Prof Kabir Chowdhury said adding that only capital city-based history would not bring welfare to the nation.
