Minister's wife, defence secretary die of corona

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque's wife Laila Arjumand Banu and Defence Secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury have died of Covid-19 on Monday.
Meanwhile, Homna UNO has been infected with coronavirus, reports UNB.
Laila Arzumand Banu, wife of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, died of coronavirus on Monday morning. She was 71.
Laila Banu, who was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka, died around 7:45am, said Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, senior information officer of the ministry.
The minister and his wife were admitted to the hospital on June 13 after they were diagnosed with coronavirus.
Though the minister returned home after recovery but his wife's condition deteriorated and was undergoing treatment at the hospital where she breathed her last.
She is survived by husband, two daughters, one son, six grandchildren and a host of well-wishers to mourn her death.
Born on January 6, 1949 to an aristocratic Muslim family in Gazipur, Laila Banu was involved in teaching for a long time.
Meanwhile, Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury died of coronavirus on Monday morning. He was 57.
Abdullah, who was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka, suffered a heart attack at 8:45am and died at 9:30am, said additional secretary Md Mahmud-ul-Haque.
Bhasani Mirza, an administrative officer at secretary's office of the ministry, said that the senior secretary was admitted to the hospital on May 29 after he contracted the virus.
He was shifted to the ICU on June 6 and put on life support on June 18.
Mohsin is survived by wife, one son and one daughter.
In Cumilla, Homna upazila nirbahi officer Tapti Chakma has been infected with coronavirus.
The samples of the UNO, his private driver and night guard as well as 17 others from Cumilla tested positive on Sunday, according to the Homna civil surgeon office.
The UNO said she is undergoing treatment staying at his government residence.
