Minor boy falls into well in city

A minor boy fell into a nearly six-hundred feet abandoned water well in the city's Shahjahanpur railway colony area in the capital on Friday.
The boy named Zihad (three and half years old) fell into the well at about 3:00 pm while he was playing with his friends.
After the incident the friends informed his parents. Later the Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) team rushed to the spot, and made hectic efforts to rescue the minor boy.
"He (Zihad) fell into the well. It is narrow and long. We started our operation at about 3:30 pm. We sent oxygen cylinders, food and fruit juice to keep him alive," Major Shakil Newaz, FSCD rescue team head, told the media at around 8:30 pm.
The diametre of the well is 17 inches. It was uncovered when the boy fell into it. People of different ages thronged the spot.
"I heard about falling of my son into the well from his friends. We informed the Fire Service… and they are trying to rescue him (my son)," Nasiruddin, father of Zihad, who works with a security agency office, told the media.
He said Zihad is the eldest of his three sons.
The fire service rescue team made several attempts to rescue him (Zihad) by sending rope attached with shopping bag into the well, but failed. However, they continued using the method until 8:30 pm.
After failing to lift him from the well, the rescue team brought a crane at 8:39 pm and applied it at around 8:42 pm.
Locals said the well has been abandoned over the last one year. After the incident no personnel of Bangladesh Railway (BR) or Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) was found in the scene.
The rescue operation was going on till filling of the report at around 9:30 pm.
