Minor domestic help tortured in Noakhali

A 13-year-old domestic help has been tortured allegedly by a Palli Bidyut Samity employee and his wife in Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district. The victim, identified as Bibi Amena, daughter of Alamgir of Comilla district, was rescued on Thursday. She was first admitted to the Begumganj Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Noakhali General Hospital for better treatment. The victim’s father also arrived at the hospital after learning about her condition. On information that the minor girl was roaming in a critical condition on a street in the Choumohoni municipality area, a team of Begumganj Model Police Station went to the spot and rescued the girl in the early hours.
Dr Ashim Kumar Das, resident medical officer of the health complex, said the girl bore injury marks at her hands, back and chest. The victim alleged that her employers Saiful Islam and his wife Nilufa used to torture her in various ways. They used to scald her with iron rod and pour hot water on her chest and other parts of the body. A case was filed with Begumganj Model Police Station by the victim’s father in this connection under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, according to a news agency.
